I truly wish that I wish I could build furniture and cabinets for a living. In my heart of hearts I am just a joiner and a carpenter. To work wood from rough plank into a beautiful and useful object, used for generations, is so fulfilling to me. To watch something develop in my hands and made more beautiful from use is one of my great pleasures in life. It is called beausage and I am sure it is what a boat builder feels when a long ago project comes back to him for repair and he lovingly caresses the worn tiller, sees the worn deck, and pats the trim on the companionway . It is not to be. I have not yet found a way to make enough money with mallet and chisel to pay for my kids’ college education, to travel with my lovely wife, and to have a comfortable retirement. Sure, I could open a shop or start a firm, but I would shortly be pushed away from crafting and into the realities of running a business. As a bandage for my longing, I build stuff for my home, for the kids, for my lovely wife, and as gifts. The slide shows and pictures below are a way for me to document this.

The whole thing is made from recycled wood and old trim. I spent a couple nights getting the door cut, the trim on and the shoe rack made.
The Never Ending Hutch
it took months of searching before I founf the correct crown moulding - MONTHS! It was not cheap...
hothouse with plastic on
The plastic is heavy Home Depot painter's drop cloth. I stapled a stringer to the bottom of each side for weight. The clamps are ~5| sections of flex irrigation pipe that I also used the table saw to cut a slit in - these go on best when they are WARM. I am holding the ends closed with $.99 spring clamps. This extended my tomato season by a month in 2011 and hopefully starts my season a month early in 2012.
